Fixing My Blogging Mistakes: No More WordPress.com Hosting!

I’m prepping to move to BlueHost!

When I first started this blog damn near a year ago (though I only really got into my groove in August 2014), I was a straight up noob/newb/n00b. So much so that I opted for WordPress hosting.

Will someone please think of the children?

It was a hasty move, no doubt. One that killed me the moment I realized installing WordPress plug-ins wasn’t an option. They denied me all Dikembe Mutombo-style.

Did I just show my age there? I totally showed my age there.

Sure, I found it silly that WordPress hosting didn’t allow for the installation of WordPress plug-ins, but I don’t have the time to poo poo my past decisions. “Live and learn” is what a bunch of smarter people who lived before me said. So yeah, I’m going to use that as my mantra here.

Commence learning.

With the move and possible/probable redesign of the blog coming, I want to take the opportunity to also figure out the focus of this blog. Since I started this the focus of my blog has been pretty much like my attention span: unfocused. I wrote about earning money independently, meditation, social issues, religion, veganism, and Ninja Turtles. I’ve posted spoken word pieces, book excerpts, photography, recipes, music, and a ton of podcasts.

ADD is great!

So I have an ambitious plan, one that I’m sure I’ll fail implementing. At least in the beginning. All I can do is keep trying to improve and see where I am another year from now. So here’s my crazy idea: I’m going to have a couple super-focused blogs that will be updated less frequently, but consistently nonetheless. Those posts will be reposted here along with original posts that focus mostly on positive living, creative writing, and my life experiences.

In short, I’m creating a blog network.

I’m fully aware that all signs say I’m going to face plant like a mofo trying to do this, but I’m going to give it a shot anyway. Aim high, try hard, and I’ll at least land somewhere between failure and success.

Peace out, party people.

Blog Update: Layout Tweaks and New Post Categories

So it’s been about a month since my last Blog Update post (I totally couldn’t find a better way to word that). Here’s what I’m doing with my blog!

  • I added a sidebar finally with my five most recent posts and category cloud. I might replace that cloud with five most popular posts, but we’ll see.
  • By next week, I should have an about page (how didn’t I already do that?)
  • I’m using 10am ET to experiment with a few different post types. I’m doing more with food and photography so far (as seen by my Monday post), but I also want to start incorporating my music and maybe some cool video pieces.
  • In an effort to also share cool things my friends are doing, I will also periodically feature creative pieces from other people I know.
  • App of the Week is probably a wrap for now. I’m still figuring out a replacement post.

Thanks as always for the continued support and kind words. For now….

Peace out, party people.

Alright, while chatting on Google Hangouts, my friend Fallon said some consistency with my blog would help people who are regular readers.

Noted!

As such, here’s a rundown of my blog schedule! I may still toy around with additional posts at other times, but this is when you can DEFINITELY expect me. Enjoy!

SUNDAY
9am ET: Positivity of the Week – Just some positive thoughts to kick off the week!

MONDAY
11am ET: Lessons from a New Self-Earner – In these posts, I have been giving tips to those looking to become self-earners. These are all based on my own experiences and advice from others.
12pm ET: Thinkington – This is a video series on my Andre Griffiths YouTube channel. Here I interview cool people doing cool things outside of a normal full-time job.
1pm ET: Daily Opinion – My opinion on a current event or random topic
2pm ET: Project Update – Updates on any projects I have. Sort of like this post!
3pm ET: 100 Days/100 Ideas – As the name implies, I’m posting 100 ideas over 100 days. Once I’m done I’ll replace this with another reoccurring post.

TUESDAY
11am ET: The Ramblings Podcast – My podcast, usually co-hosted by my buddy, Leaf. Other times I do it by myself or have a guest. Either way, there’s a lot of rambling conversation going on.
12pm ET: Peek’s Picks – My buddy, Aric Peek, always has great suggestions for innovative sites and projects. Anytime we speak, he has something to share that he’s found. They’re usually so good, I’ve decided to share them with you!
1pm ET: Daily Opinion
2pm ET: Spoken Word Piece – The name says it all. This is also an excuse for me to compile my pieces and make a book out of them.
3pm ET: 100 Days/100 Ideas

WEDNESDAY
11am ET: My Journey Toward Financial Freedom – This is focused on the progress (sometimes lack thereof) toward being totally independent. Sometimes I write about myself, other times I delve into possible paths toward financial freedom.
12pm ET: Adventures in Photography
1pm ET: Daily Opinion
2pm ET: Creative Writing Piece – Once again, the name says it all. This can be just about anything.
3pm ET: 100 Days/100 Ideas

THURSDAY
11am ET: The Ramblings Podcast
12pm ET: App of the Week – A piece of mobile or PC software that I will profile.
1pm ET: Daily Opinion
2pm ET: Throwback Writing – This is where I dig in the crates and unearth a piece of writing from my past. Eventually, I’ll replace this with another way to celebrate Throwback Thursdays.
3pm ET: 100 Days/100 Ideas

FRIDAY
11am ET: The Gibbler Podcast – My new television-related podcast co-hosted by my longtime friend, Chakktor.
12pm ET: Friday Procrastination Links – I love procrastinating. This is a chance for me to share some random links and videos as the week comes to an end.
1pm ET: Daily Opinion
2pm ET: Lesson of the Week – Lessons learned from life, business, etc. Because, you know, if you’re not learning, you’re not growing. Or something like that.
3pm ET: Something Random – Something random.

SATURDAY

Positivity of the Day: 100th Blog Post!

100th-post

Holy crap, I actually made it to 100 posts! This is coming from the guy who is notorious for abandoning projects for the next new and shiny idea. I’m pretty damn proud of myself.

Oh, would you look at that. Looks like my back needs patting. I’ll take care of that, if you don’t mind.

On this 100th post, I want to leave you all with one simple message: YOU CAN DO IT TOO!

I’m not even kidding. Anyone who has a modicum of interest in blogging should seriously figure out their niche and go for it. The internet has way too many resources to claim ignorance. The technology is too ubiquitous to claim you have a lack of resources. Scheduling posts even allows for less of a focus on time. Everything is at your disposal.

Once again, this is only if you have an interest.

That said, if you have a dream, go for it if possible. Dreams are awesome. They aren’t always attainable, but life is more fun when you’re chasing them. That’s the way I see it at least.

Finally, I’d like to thank anyone who has read, is reading, and will read my blog. You guys rock and are my constant motivation. I’ll always make sure to do my best to continue providing the best content I can.

In the meantime, my back could use a bit more patting so I’ll be busy for the next five minutes or so.

Peace out, party people.
